The Devil’s Elbow Spin: A Caddo Lake Encounter with Merilla

Where Did It Happen?: Caddo Lake Uncertain Texas

When Did It Happen?: Early 2000’s, mid summer maybe late July at dusk.

What Happened?: I was gator wrangling in the back swamps of Caddo Lake about a 1/2 mile North of Devils Elbow when I heard a large splash followed by a low chuckling. Sounded like an old man laughing. I turned suddenly thinking I’d see an alligator I’ve been after for years but instead I caught an eyeful of a massive tail splash. I’ve seen fish jump plenty of times but I’ve never seen anything like this! It looked like an iridescent glimmer of greens and blues shifting just beneath the surface of the murky water when suddenly an explosion of fur and fins leapt from the water. The creature made a complete 360 spin in the air displaying a massive body of rippling fury muscles followed by a shimmering tail fin, and then it just disappeared back into the water. My friends and family never believed me when I told them what I saw and I’ve been looking for it ever since that fateful evening.

What Kind Of Encounter Was It?: I don't know...it was just...weird, He winked at me (maybe?), Saw glowing water
